Custom pillows in our shop are offered as "single-sided" or "double-sided." For single-sided pillows, a natural solid fabric is used on the back for a more economical style. For double-sided pillows, the same designer fabric is used on the front and back, which can make the pillow more expensive because of the additional designer material.

Double-sided pillows offer the most custom finish. With this style, there is no "front" and "back" that requires the pillow to be facing a certain way. And when the pattern allows it, the pattern will match at the seam providing a seamless finish to your pillow. For large pattern repeats or more whimsical patterns, this pattern match may not be possible, but choosing double-sided still provides the most designer look to your decor.

How will you know if the pattern will match at the seams for the pillow you're choosing? In the description of each pillow cover, you'll see a notation that says "for double-sided pillow covers, pattern will match at the seams" or "pattern placement will vary."

So, when is it most important to consider choosing "double-sided?" Is it always necessary?

If your sofa or furniture can be seen from the back side, choosing double-sided is most recommended as you and your guests can view the beautiful color and pattern display from all angles.

You can see below that the single-sided option doesn't provide as much color and contrast because the patterns are not visible from the back of the sofa.

If your sofa or furniture is against the wall and cannot be viewed from the back side, then you may prefer the single-sided option for its cost savings nature.

If you must choose single-sided, consider adding a trim like a self welt or brush fringe to upscale the pillow at a lower price point than choosing double-sided.

FAQ: Can I add a different coordinating color to the back instead of the natural solid? Yes! Our workroom can source other solids or ticking stripes for the back of single-sided pillows, but because of minimum yardage requirements from most of our vendors, pricing for this request can sometimes be the same as choosing "double-sided" initially. We're always happy to setup a quote for you! Complete our form here for more custom requests.
